Easter

May 6, 2011

On Easter Sunday, I went to Whole Foods Market in Oakland California in search of sustenance. After foraging for rice crackers, yogurt cheese, tahini, and kombucha, I went to the checkout line. While placing my items on the conveyor belt, a young woman dressed in a pink spring dress entered the line directly behind me. She had long dark curly hair in which she had placed a hairband that had two purple horns attached. The horns were wrapped with ribbon, probably to conceal the original red horns of what was likely a Halloween costume item.  I asked her, “Are you the Easter Devil?” She simply smiled. A sweet devilish smile. An Easter devil smile. She then waved her hands over the 12 packages of rice crackers on the conveyor belt and asked, “What are you going to do with all these crackers?” I replied “I am going to eat them.” I think she liked me.

What do you think?
